Core Beliefs

The Christian Church of Petersburg is a congregation of people who are striving to put Jesus first in every area of life. We exist as a fellowship of believers committed to the restoration of the simple Christianity of New Testament times. 

 

We value, very highly, our freedom in Christ and express it without any man-made creeds or imposed hierarchy. We seek to use the bible as our only rule of faith and practice. 

 

The terms of admission into Christ’s church are those revealed within the pages of the New Testament. We have merely accepted the plan of Jesus and refrain from adding to it or taking from it. Believers in Christ are baptized by immersion and become members in our fellowship if desired. Immersed believers from other communities or churches are accepted by transfer. 

 

In memory of our Lord, we celebrate the Lord’s Supper each Lord’s day, as did the New Testament Church. In all things we seek to follow the teaching of the New Testament concerning the church. This is why we say, “Where the Scriptures speak, we speak; where the Scriptures are silent, we are silent."
